Pernod Ricard
Conducted international user interviews and workshops to design a global Data search engine improving data accessibility for 7,000+ employees worldwide.
Year :
2022
Industry :
Alcohol & Spirits
Client :
Pernod Ricard
Project Duration :
3 months

Summary
As UX Researcher and Designer, I led the creation of an internal DataCatalog for Pernod Ricard, the world's second-largest wines and spirits company.
Through international user interviews with 15 data professionals across diverse profiles and geographies, I designed an intuitive platform enabling 7,000+ employees to easily find and access company data regardless of their technical expertise.
This project contributed to Pernod Ricard being ranked the top European company in the 2024 Data & AI Human Capital Report, demonstrating the impact of user-centered design in democratizing data access globally.

CHALLENGES
Designing a data portal accessible to diverse user profiles with varying technical expertise (business people, BI analysts, data scientists, data engineers, IT project managers, data stewards, deployment leads)
Conducting interviews with global teams across different time zones, cultures, and languages to understand varied behavioral patterns and needs
Creating an interface and content strategy that works universally while respecting cultural differences
Defining clear, universally understood English wording for technical concepts
Working within Pernod Ricard's newly created design system
Conducting competitive analysis despite the private, internal nature of similar tools at other companies

Methodology
User Research & Discovery
Defined data user personas across 8 distinct profiles (business users, BI analysts, data scientists, engineers, stewards, project managers)
Created tailored questionnaires for each profile type
Recruited and selected 15 interview participants from a pool of 40 candidates across global locations
Research Execution & Analysis
Conducted international user interviews accounting for cultural and behavioral differences
Analyzed findings and created comprehensive research reports
Presented insights to stakeholders
Design & Collaboration
Defined final user flows based on research insights
Facilitated internal workshops to align stakeholders
Created wireframes respecting Pernod Ricard's design system
Supervised UI design and copywriting to ensure accessibility for all user profiles
Deliverables
User personas for 8 data professional profiles
Interview protocols and research reports
User flow documentation
Wireframes and interface designs
Discovery report with global insights
Macro steps of guest journey
Final DataCatalog interface design

Key Takeaways
Creating a truly global tool requires deep understanding of every user profile combination and cultural nuance. This project reinforced that successful enterprise design isn't just about functionality, it's about accounting for how different cultures interpret information, how varying technical expertise levels interact with data, and how language choices can either empower or exclude users.
By conducting interviews across continents and synthesizing diverse perspectives, I learned that universal usability comes from respecting specificity. The result was a DataCatalog that didn't just work for everyone, it worked because it was designed for everyone.
Contributing to Pernod Ricard's recognition as a data leader validated that inclusive, research-driven design creates measurable business impact.
